Personal Statements

Emerging Advances in Targeted Psychiatry

Nashville Brain Institute (NBI) serves as a specialized Neuropsychiatric center for clinical and research activities, concentrating on accurate psychiatric diagnosis and care. Targeted psychiatry involves exploring the fundamental neurobiological processes behind mental health symptoms. We strive to formulate personalized, measurement-guided assessments and therapies that target these core mechanisms, thus addressing overlooked aspects of mental disorders and providing lasting remedies for mental illness. At NBI, our mental health team works in tandem with neurologists to link neurobiology and psychiatry, empowering us to resolve complex neuropsychiatric conditions through extensive diagnostic strategies and therapeutic methods, such as neurotransmitter evaluations, cognitive tests, Ketamine treatment, Ketamine-enhanced psychotherapy, TMS treatment, Suboxone treatment, and IOP group therapy.

NBI's Enhanced TMS Protocol

Nashville Brain Institute (NBI) is among the select practices across the country providing an intensified TMS program. The FDA has recently endorsed Stanfordu2019s SAINT TMS protocol, a refined form of TMS that may achieve higher effectiveness, potentially reaching an 80% remission rate. While traditional TMS requires 30 sessions over six weeks, the intensified protocol consists of 10 daily treatments for five days. Our adapted TMS program draws from the newly approved SAINT protocol with adjustments for better suitability in private settings. We condense the 10 Theta Burst TMS sessions into five hours per day over five days of focused treatment. Each individual undergoing Accelerated TMS at our facility is supported by a dedicated team including a psychiatrist, TMS specialist, and care manager. The fee for Accelerated TMS is $800 daily, currently not covered by insurance, whereas standard TMS is typically insured. Accelerated TMS offers advantages in efficacy over standard TMS and accommodates those needing to travel to our sites.

Ketamine Therapy, Tailored Medication, and Brain Stimulation

NBI excels in intranasal Ketamine therapy for conditions like depression, PTSD, OCD, Autism, and addiction issues. Our tailored dosing method minimizes injection discomfort and cuts costs to about one-fourth of infusion-based Ketamine. Our Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy provides both immediate psychedelic support and prolonged chemical benefits for depression and trauma. Personalized Drug Choice: Our providers choose medications based on insights from Pharmacogenetic testing and Neurotransmitter Assessments. Brain Modulation (rTMS, tVNS): Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is a non-invasive technique using magnetic pulses to activate brain cells, helping alleviate depression symptoms when other treatments fall short. At NBI, we employ Magstim and Apollo rTMS for depression and additional applications. Transcutaneous Vagus Nerve Stimulation (tVNS) offers a non-surgical alternative to implanted Vagus nerve stimulators.
