RELAPSE HELP

Relapse Doesn’t Mean Failure — It Means You Need Support

If you relapsed, don’t waste today on shame. Shame keeps people stuck. Recovery isn’t about never falling — it’s about learning how to stand up faster.

If you’re at risk: If you’re mixing substances, blacking out, feeling unsafe, or worried about overdose — call emergency services (911 in Canada/US).

Stop the Spiral

Drink water. Eat something small. Get to a safe environment. Stabilize your body first.

Reduce Harm

Don’t use alone. Avoid mixing alcohol + opioids/benzos. Keep yourself alive first.

Restart Today

One honest message to a safe person can change the entire outcome of today.

What To Do Right Now (Next 60 Minutes)

  • Move yourself to a safer place (away from dealers/using environments)
  • Hydrate + eat something simple
  • Shower or wash your face (seriously — nervous system reset)
  • Delete/avoid relapse contacts for 24 hours
  • Text someone: “I slipped. I need support. Can you check in later?”

Relapse Warning Pattern (Most People Miss This)

Relapse rarely starts with substance use. It starts earlier:

  • Isolation
  • Not sleeping / eating
  • Stress + resentment
  • Romanticizing using
  • “I don’t care anymore” thinking

Make a Relapse Repair Plan (10 minutes)

  • Trigger: What happened right before relapse?
  • Emotion: What were you trying to escape?
  • Fix: What support/tool would have helped?
  • Prevention: What boundary must change?
